We went to Chikmagalur in January, and it was the worst decision ever to book our stay with Zostel. Let me list down pros and cons before dwelling into the experience. Pros - Premises are very clean and serene. So if you are looking to hangout with your books amidst nature, this is perfect. There's a coffee plantation and you can take a walk. (But that's there at almost all the places in Chikmaglur, nothing different.) Cons: 1. Poor Connectivity - If you don't have your own vehicle, then be prepared to wait around for passing autos/ buses for going anywhere. Also, most likely you won't get any mobile network signal either. 2. No Food - They do have a cafe, but it was closed all the time we were there. Couldn't even get a coffee in the morning. 3. Limited Amenities - It's fine if you are looking for a budget option and book a bunk bed, but private cabins are not worth it. The rooms are clean but are practically bare - no facilities whatsoever that you can easily get for a 3-4K room. 4. Pathetic Customer Service - This is primarily the reason for 1 star rating - I would give negative if I could. So Here's the Experience: They basically double booked our cabin. On top of that, they

I wouldn't recommend staying here. The property might look nice in pictures but the rooms are very uncomfortable. Full of cockroaches and lizards. There's no proper place to keep our stuff, and the small fan is awkwardly installed such that the person on the lower bunk bed would feel stuffy. One of the lights wasn't working and when we went out to look for someone we couldn't find any staff at the property. There's a cafe called coffee bar inside the property, and the food and the service neither is adequate. Extremely disappointing experience.

Was not as expected. Maybe the reviews are old. The condition of this place is poor. No one there cared about the rules of the place. Some people were having alcohol in the open even though the rules prohibited it. The wifi was not working. There was a PS3 which was not working. All the toilet windows are open which may bother female travellers. The management does not seem to enforce the rules of zostel. Evident from the incident where people were having alcohol. The lockers provided had damaged locks. Would not recommend.

The worst hostel/zostel I've been to. There was wifi, but no internet. The fan works at the speed of 1. The caretaker/attendee responses with a 'sorry ma'am' for anything and everything. He single handedly managed to spoil the trip for me. Definitely a no.

Room and shower very dirty, no clean sheets, no toilet paper, the location is terrible (7km from town, very difficult for anyone without their own transportation), and there's pretty much no internet connection (even cell phones don't get data here). Never again. I stayed in Zostel Gokarna, and it was fantastic, so I had high hopes. But no, this is terrible.

Zostel is a concept to sell their company to the highest bidder. Since they have been funded, their only aim is to increase the number of hostels they own. They do not care as to who they pick as a franchise or what the franchise is capable of as long as they can add their name to any pathetic establishment. This zostel has no connectivity to the internet or basic transport facilities. A bus or auto is like looking for a road in the middle of the thar dessert. They have a namesake cafe that does not function. Its like those little SBI ATMs that seem to be closed most of the day. They are generally closed for lunch! Service is not a forte at zostel. In fact if you were to envisage any kind of service fro any zostel owner / employee or any staff you are headed for pure disappointment. Oh Before I forget the higher ratings are usually achieved by the staff themselves adding reviews to various websites. So perhaps you should actually just give zostel a miss cause there are so many good hostels out there that work really hard to make their customers feel special. They even double booked a friend's room and she had to leave and find another place when she had already been checked in

Horrible experience staying in Chikmagalur zostel.The place is in the middle of a jungle and u will not find any autos or cabs to reach there. And once you reach u will find that there won't be any care taker in the campus after 8 pm. You won't find any food joint nearby so u will have only the option to eat in zostel canteen which hardly has any options and whatever u take u will have to pay 4 times of its regular price. But if you are renting a bike u can still think of staying there.

Don't book the private rooms, they are not worth it. They are like noise chambers, you can hear even faint sounds from the neighbors. No hot water. Need to leave foot wear. Bathrooms don't lock correctly. This is nothing like Zostel Gokarna.

To my disappointment, this Zostel lacks the Zostel vibe. It's located close to the road so there's that constant traffic buzz. Apparently there are more "rooms" than dorms which at times makes you feel like you are in a typical hotel. The host as always turns out to be a great guy. It's about 8 kilometres from the city and you don't find anything close-by. I wish they could have chosen a better location.

The dorms are not that greatly maintained. Not clean enuf. The room is too small for 8 ppl. There is no mention of Zostel at the entrance of the site. Actually, there is no Zostel board anywhere. It perhaps misses a little of Zostel Vibe. The common room for the Dorms was also not very pleasing.
