Checked out 3 nights early! The 4.7 rating exists only because there are two hostels in Chikmagalur and self reviews! Completely unbothered staff: I requested a vehicle rental on arrival Monday and was told none were available. Thursday morning while checking out early, I watched them hand one to a newly arrived guest. They simply forgot about me — no follow up, no communication, no apology. That indifference sums up the entire stay. Security: No automatic lock on the dorm door. Guests could lock you out from outside. A family of five checked into our 6-bed mixed dorm — parents, kids — and treated it like a private hotel room, leaving the door wide open the entire stay, hogging up bathroom for hours. Mosquitoes and bugs all night, zero privacy, felt like an unwanted stepson on someone else's family vacation. Cleanliness: Cockroaches and bugs throughout common areas. Food: Canteen doesn't open until after 10 AM — sucks if you're an early riser. Only ordering via Glu app otherwise. Half the menu sold out daily. Waited over an hour for pasta at 10 PM. No kitchen access, no restaurant. Internet: Unreliable and barely functional. Bathrooms: Large groups monopolise bathrooms for hours. A

Horrible experience at this place! The chef took a whole day leave saying that only 2-3 people are staying at the hostel. There is absolutely no food nearby especially at night. They straight up say order from zomato. The food is very expensive and tastes horrible. The service is very bad, shower gel and hand wash also was not kept in the rooms. No wooden logs for bonfire too. Very casual approach and no empathy towards the guests. Dont stay here.

Really poor management and maintenance! It was extremely dirty and very unhygienic. Absolutely doesn’t stand up to the Hosteller brand name. There are a few key disappointments to be highlighted: 1. No AC but fans are provided. But there’s no ventilation for the upper bunk. 2. Food accessibility - extremely poor 3. No entertainment/games - very poorly staged place. 4. 0 control - they strictly said no music after 10.30pm but they played disgustingly loud music until 2am. It was the worst management honestly. 5. The Hosteller Chikmagalur has to be the worst hosteller I have ever visited. The staff and the food was super worst. Each item we ordered was so bad that there was no point in having food there. And staff was so rude and impotent. We were asked to go back to our rooms after 12:30 as that was considered were silent hours. How can someone on a trip go to sleep in their dorm just after 12:30. If this is the case what is the difference between a this and a hotel. The staff guy ANU threatened us to go to sleep in our dorm or do a checkout(1AM.). Extremely disappointed with hosteller. Never staying here again.

Met with threats on call from The manager Rakesh for a mere conversation over some issue. Like literally….. never in my entire life I felt so that someone would dare to give me threats….. that fucker couldn’t say a word to me on face to face and once I was out from there. However I literally wanted to go back to hostel and kick his ass for sure on the spot ….Man to man ….. he would never do that again to anyone but time was running out. They should fuckin replace that clown with someone better and genuinely good person. He just act good do show off and later begging for 5 star reviews. I have seen him being toxic with staff there. We visited this place for a weekend getaway. Overall experience was very poor. There was no service staff, power cuts were very frequent and for long duration that too without any backup. Not much options for food and the ones which they serve are also not upto the mark. Rooms were very small compared to what was shown in the images. There was no events or activities planned for the guests. The 1 star which i have given is for the manager who was trying his level best to provide the services out of very limited options available. Overall not worth spending any money or time on this property

I definitely regretted booking stay here. I don't know I only got the issue of not having any power during my stay but it definitely not I was expected. As I am particularly booked here hoping that I don't get any issue during my work as it says power backup is available. But the backup hardly is about 5hrs throughout the day. They said due to local permissions the generator has to run only for that time (But I heard loud music at another hotel near to it all night long). I left the next day even after I booked it for two days. As I said I don't know the problem happened to me only, but yes I faced and it's an issue (They responded and refund my second day stay amount). I have booked a private room and the room will be ok for solo like me but not for couple or more. I have stayed in The Hosteller Coorg Rainforest before coming here and the experience was outstanding. I have stayed there for 3 days and never had any issue even with the power but here it’s completely opposite. Never going to book or recommend here in Chikamagalur.

Tbh Didn’t get the vibe. They forced me to write a 5 star review. I am Google local guide 8th level reviewer doing it for the last 10 years and I knew that this would happen. Had to do it at that time. I already knew that this would happen for sure. Now writing it again as an honest review. Not recommended at all …. Better go for other hostels. Hosts are just playing nice but behind the wall …. There is different scenarios going on. Don’t fall for that niceness and all, they are just playing and acting and they have kinda mastered it really well that normal ppl wouldn’t even notice it 😂. Worst place . First of all it’s outside the town …. Like way too far from the town . You actually can’t visit markets and all …. Can’t buy any essentials as there is no shop. It’s like situated in pure jungle (and it’s definitely not what you are imagining) Rooms are okaish but definitely not worth 1000+ rupees for a mere bed in a dorm. You can’t eat outside food there and definitely manager will definitely poke you. Quantity of Food they provide is very less compared to the prices and taxes and it takes a lot of time to get your food on your table for even a basis coffee etc.

I had a very disappointing experience with The Hosteller in Chikmagalur. They cancelled my booking just a day before my arrival. I had pre-booked this stay a week in advance, and I was already traveling when I received the cancellation. When I requested their assistance or an alternative accommodation, they did not provide any help. To make things worse, they took time to process my refund. There is no mention in their terms and conditions that bookings can be canceled anytime for such reasons, yet they did this without taking any responsibility. This experience caused me a lot of inconvenience, and I would not recommend relying on them for travel plans.

Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Hype Pros: • The location was quite nice – peaceful, surrounded by greenery, and spacious. • Ample parking space was available, which is a plus. Cons: • The food was extremely overpriced – even more than popular cafes in Chikmagalur. I ordered a hot chocolate that tasted like Bournvita, and it cost ₹170. In contrast, I had a much better one at a reputed cafe for just ₹50. • The check-in time was very late (though mentioned in advance, it’s still inconvenient). • A dog entered the room and jumped on the bed, which was both shocking and unhygienic. • Very few board games were available – the recreational options were quite limited

Worst experience here. Kindly avoid this. Remotely located in the middle of the jungle, can be dangerous at night. No activity to do. You are paying so much for small rooms and food is also expensive. Staff is also rude and unprofessional can’t even give glass. Most importantly they have unnecessary rules like no alcohol and no music after 10. Why the hell people pay so much money for such rules?

An Absolute Nightmare – Avoid at All Costs! I cannot express how disappointed I was with my stay at this hotel. From the moment I walked into the hotel, I knew I had made a terrible mistake. The room was filthy – stains on the carpet, dust covering every surface, and a mysterious sticky substance on the nightstand. The bathroom was even worse: mold in the corners, a broken showerhead that sprayed water everywhere, and a toilet that barely flushed. The bed was a disaster. The sheets had visible stains, and the mattress was so lumpy and worn out that I woke up with back pain. The pillows were flat as pancakes, and the blanket had holes in it. I didn’t even want to touch the furniture because it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. The noise level was unbearable. Not a good option to book. I have been travelling across the world and have been using hostels since last ten years. This one was the worst of all. To start with, room lacks basic ventilation. It was so hot inside, no fan, no AC. Lot of cockroach and ants in the rooms which clearly says lack of maintainence. The bathrooms were stinking like public washrooms. We informed them and were told it was cleaned an hour before, but trust me, it did make no difference. The bathrooms are too small (3*3 maximum), no hot water, flow of water in many taps were really slow, the worst of all was there was no outlet in bathroom. The water from all bathrooms will go out, and the only outlet was below the basin. So the floor or basin was filled with water coming from all bathrooms. It was kind of disgusting. After being here , we re-read all the positive reviews and wondering how were these things missed. Moreover, this place is remotely accessible and the last patch is very difficult to travel after sunset. Would recommend only if someone has a car. We had a two wheeler and was finding it difficult, really doubt how solo traveller must be coming here , have not seen bus or auto around. Having said
